Rubicon vs Rincon
#41
I think our riends has a digital gas gauge and selectable 4-wd, his is the new body style like the Rincon.
The only thing I don't like about it being in 4-wd all the time is it eats the front tires faster than the rear, otherwise I'm fine with it not being slectable.
I think the fuel injection would be nice even though our runs excellent and always has.
The disc brakes would be nice too as long as they don't squeak when they get dirty.
Over all I am 110% satisfied with our Rubicon.
I did buy a new seat because it started to crack, $82 from Honda. I have also replaced 3 floor boards and need to replace another one. I think the crack from the way my wife stands on them when she gets on. The rear rack has broken two welds and needs to have another weld fixed.

There you go, blame it on the wife!! Glad to here your so happy with the Rubicon. The reason I have Honda now is because of a good friend.
He has a 99 450es and 2004 Rubicon. Neither one have ever had a problem. He is also the type to drive them real hard all the time without all the routine maintenance. I babied my first ATV and had nothing but problems. He made me a believer in the reliability.

We use ours pretty hard considering it has carried 400+ pounds for most of those 9000 miles.

It takes me 1/2 hour of beating the skid plate with a hammer to get it to go back on every time I change the oil, it's in pretty bad shape. Wish I had a dolloar for every time I've drug the bottom across some big old rock.

The wheels and tires take a beating from the rocks.
I am pretty good at keeping it maintained. Oil and filter changes every 500 miles and a valve adjust and new spark plug every 1000 miles. I use Honda filters and Vavoline 10w40 ATV oil and I change the coolant every 2000 miles. I also clean the air filter every oil change.
I have replace both front upper control arm bushings, shafts and seals, it looked like water got past the seals. I have also replaced the left rear wheel bearing and the left upper ball joint and have never been stranded. And the hand operated rear brake cable. Maybe I went over the $200.
I would still love to spend a day on a new Rincon.

I too have a 2001 Rubicon and it has had absolutely no problems at all in 8 years. I have added the warn 424, gearless locker and dial-a-jet. I live in Illinois but I do ride in Colorado or Utah normally once a year. It's done some tough trails in Moab as well as reached 13800' in Colorado with no problems. I love the transmission but I am also wanting more power and a better ride. I've come close to buying a Rincon but I also felt that it may not be what I want, not so much in performance or comfort but in control (5 speed option, engine braking, low range) I may miss having the locker installed as well I don't know. I've looked at the Grizzly 700 and it seems like it would be really nice. I had thought a least by 2005 or 2006 Honda would have built something more like a Grizzly but the wait continues. I can't get rid of the feeling that if I buy a Grizzly Honda will come out with a truly updated Rubicon. It's getting harder to wait. I've got a Yamaha/Honda dealer that's going to call me when he gets another blue 2009 Grizzly 700. I guess I'll have to see if I can wait any longer. The Rincon is still an option though. There is one atv rental at Hatfield-McCoy that rents only Rincons I may head there sometime and try one out.

My only riding in Utah has been Moab and around Bryce Canyon area (Fremont Trail, Casto Canyon) and a few others in that area. I've also have been to Sand Hollow State Park. Last fall I bought the Paiute Trail map so I can make that trip at some point. That's the reason I would love to get something new. I also plan on going to the San Rafael Swell. I just don't have enough time.

We rode the Fremont trail from Marysvale to Bryce Canyon last year in July. We rode Casto Canyon on the way back, what a beautiful canyon.
If you make it to Marysvale look me up, we're moving there at the end of the month.

We are going to open a small business in this building that is in the center of Marysvale.
Tell me that you read it here in the forum and I'll buy you an ice cream cone.
We rode in Moab Thanksgiving 2007, it was a blast. Years ago we used to take the truck to Moab for
the Easter Jeep Safari, that was a lot of fun.
We have done quite a bit of off roading in CO too, but that was in the truck,
haven't ridden our ATV there yet.

This is me and my wife one of the two times that we have been
to the San Rafael Swell, really beautiful country.

Michael2,
Where in Illinois do you live? I live near Chicago. If your close, where do you ride locally? Haven't found anything close.
I do love my Rincon, though I have only had a few months. I really have only ridden for a good amount time once. Can't wait till vacation in May...Hatfield McCoy here we come. The reservations are already made..
