Oil plug leaking on 2000 Rancher 350
#4
You need to replace the aluminum drain plug gasket.
I replace mine every time I change the oil and so do most Honda mechanics whether they work on ATVs or cars.
The drain plug is steal and the case is aluminum. Be careful not to over tighten the drain plug and damage the threads in the case.
New DPG (drain plug gasket) are cheap and the dealer should have tons of them in stock.

Thanks for the replies. I have 4 ranchers from 2000 -2002. I have checked 3 of them and there is no gasget on the oil plug. Only one leaks. I thought it was just a flat machined surface on the pan and the plug that sealed without a gasget. Some auto oil pan plugs seal that way I know. I just don't know about these Ranchers. I don't think the book that I have shows a gasget. I'll do further research on it.

Look closely, the aluminum gasket could look like it's part of the drain plug and be tough to get off.

This is what you need. All of your drain plugs should have one of these gaskets on it.
