they break at the right front motor mount and the rear motor mounts, and some other places. There are some places that gusset them. I had a friend that is a professional welder who gussets frames is his spare time do mine. It looks like it came from the factory with the gussets. Looks really nice.

They tend to crack around the seat latch, the rear swingarm on the 86-87's and they all will crack around the upper area around where the steering stem mounts. but I've had 2 and neither one of them have had any cracks in them. But my 89

The R frame will crack in many places if you ride it very hard. Like the last person said, they will crack around the down tube by the swing arm bolt, the area by the seat latch, front and rear motor mounts, the base of the horse collar for the upper steering stem mount, and sometimes in front of the front upper shock mount. The reason that the R frames crack more than newer frames is that Honda used thin walled square steel. Once the frame startes to crack it will keep cracking even if you try to gusset or brace some areas if you keep riding the quad hard. One year we broke 2 new stock frames riding in the GNCC before we switch to an aftermarket frame. If you ride very hard like we do, the aftermarket frames will crack. But not as fast.
One of the main reason that aftermarket frames start to be made was because of the stock frames braking.
