Default New thought on 420 Rancher...Yes I know...again

I was wondering why Honda decided to take up valuable space, in the rear storage comparment (only intergated storage provided on the Rancher which makes is even more valuable) with such a large (thick tailight)

Then it dawn on mees: light; Hmmm...If they just had to have it there, why didnt they use a more compact, (thinner) LED tailight. It would also be more reliable, and use much less power.

So here is another question; Has anyone removed the OEM tailight, and placed like a flat plate, and attached a low profile LED tailight in the same location?

I kind of liked the styling of two tail/brake lights of a few years ago... I wonder if you were going to tinker with it, if you could find a pair of good looking tail lights, and just get rid of the center one?

Sure,

Just try the auto parts stores. One must be picky though

I was kind of thinking about how Honda's own dual tail lights from a couple years back would look...

Storage is of course nice, but to make a big deal of it and remove your tail light, is just being petty. You have racks, use them!

Be nice now Reconranger. Do you work for, or have stocks in Honda?

Petty? I dont see it that way. The key is intergrated storage.

The Rancher has the lease storage of any I have seen of the latest models. For trail riding, I myself, I prefer not to attach and carry cargo boxes on the racks if I can avoid it.

If I recall, the brute force used to only have a couple compartments with a mesh cover- nothing at all weather proof.

Dinking with making the rear storage compartment larger might not be worth the time and effort logically, but sometimes it is just fun to make your machine a bit different than everyone else's.

I liked two tailights better too. It's just another $15 per unit they get to keep now.

JeffinTD

I looked closer and that dern tailight fit as much a 4+ inches deep into an already small compartment box. I kinda like the shape of the red lens, but that deep inset has got to go!

I might try to leave the Red lens, I intend to extract the deep extenison with a hot butter knife (or soldering iron), then installing a LED Strip in back of the red lens....yea....thats it....

Tonight, I also found a good spot for a 12 volt socket, and mounted it tonight. I'm trying a specific type of bonding adhesive on honda's Polyproplene plastic, as I didnt want to drill any holes that might encourage cracking.
