I bought it nondriveable I took the motor apart and found nothing but shavings in the case I have not pulled the tranny completely out as of yet but what I saw was no damage to any of the other parts and it appears the shavings are coming from the honda matic I dont want to pull it all the way down until I can find a replacement as I dont like starting and stopping when I am rebuilding some thing like this

JMA005 are you very deep into it money wise? How many miles does it have on it? If it were an 02 with average condition it's worth about 3700 where I'm from. Like I said IDK what you have into it, but 1300 for a new one does not sound to bad uless it puts you in the "more than it's worth category. Have you had it running? How does it run? I agree with HondaMechanic a used one is very iffy unless you can find one with a guarantee. I have seen some rebuilds for 900 on Ebay that offer a warranty. A used one is scary cause as you know the engine and tranny are interlinked. Why would you pull the tranny out if the motor wasn't shelled? If the motor was shelled then all the oil that when through that also went through that tranny. The other reason to yank it out is the unit was damaged from an accident or it just falling apart from abuse. I'm not sure you would want a tranny from any of those situations.

LOL, I have 7 used Rubicon trannys that I think are good but will not sell them for the reason everyone has posted on here....
Go new and replace the oil pump also

Hey Gimpster, What are you doing with all those trannies? What were the circumstances for them being removed? I have two rubi's of my own and can't imagine them being parted out unless of a crash, motor bad, or something along those llines unless one is able to make more selling USED parts than selling a used machine. Just wondering what condition the machines were in to justify being parted out.

Jma005, I take it you bought this with intention to fix and resell? Is the rest of the wheeler good? Otherwise, once you have this fixed it will serve you well from my expirience.
