I aslo live in washington red...near ocean shores...Ive heard a lot about florence and their dunes but have yet ventured that far... im going with about 10 other people so sandlakes its gotta be.. hopefully the dunes are sweet and this becomes a regular trip for me and my girl.</end quote></div>
I think the point is that it may not be all that "sweet". Talk everybody into going further south!

My first trip to the dunes was also Sand Lake. It is the smallest of the Oregon Dunes riding areas, but can still be fun...as long as you ride safely. The dunes are not very large or intimidating, so it is an easy way to get used to riding in sand. The steepest and most challenging part of Sand Lake are the tree shots (sandy hill climbs that thread up through the trees). These are mostly on the east side of the dunes. There is also a main sand trail called "one-way". It's a fun ride, but watch for oncoming traffic. Even though it seems obvious by the name that the trail is supposed to be one direction only, at least 50% of the people either don't know it or don't read the rules posted at the parking lots. There can be crowds on the weekends (especially during nice weather) hence my recommendation to ride safely and defensively.
And when you get a chance check out some of the places like Florence or Coos Bay they are worth the trip.

.125 will work for anything but crazy air. i jump 5+ feet high and get up to 30 long with no bends. i would never run a heavy t9 in the sand. if u need crazy strong get you some omf beadlocks.

Sandlake is just that, a great tooth cutter. I know a few people who started duning at Coos Bay and have been to the dunes once. I personally have been to Sandlake 12 times and after about 9 times, it started getting boring. I really don't want to go back to SL but if that is where the group was going, I would go.

we had a guy that is a norm sl rider come out to glamis with us this last weekend and he now says he never wants to go to sl again lol but if that is all u got it will still be fun. and another thing about the paddle deal. the skat traks will be cheaper in the long run because when your paddles get warn u can just send them to skat trak and they will repaddle them for cheap.

The dunes are addicting.... you go once you are going to want to keep going..... JMHO but i would recommend gettin skat traks now if there is anyway you can afford them rather than gettin 1 set of sand stars then gettin another set in a couple years.... I did that and what a waste of money cuz i cant stand the sand stars they are way to heavy... They are a decent tire for a premolded but like all premolded tires just WAY to heavy and weight in the sand is your biggest enemy.
What ever you do choose... have a blast, ride safe and plan on many trips back to the dunes.
