I have a 92 Honda 250x. I went for a ride on Sunday and my x is running great when all of a sudden it was just like I shut the key off. I towed it back home and started checking the cdi box with another known good one and still no fire. I have ohmed out the stator and the pulse coil and every thing seems to be in spec. from what my friend told me they should check. I have checked out the key switch and the thumb kill switch and the reverse switch everything seems o.k. Does anyone have any other Ideas?

Yes, I checked it with another known good coil. I talked to another guy that said he has seen a stator check good when ohmed out but was still bad. Have you heard of that?

I was wondering of anyone has a wiring schematic and a troubleshooting checklist or something that tell the resistance of different checkpoints so i can doublecheck the resistance of the stator, pulse coil, coil, cdi box and anything else that has to do with the firing of the motor? My friend maybe mistaken on some of the readings.

coil resistance primary-0.1to0.2 ohms. thats taken at the posts on the coil. the secondary with the plug cap on is 8.8-14k ohms taken green terminal to the end of the plug wire. pulse generator coil resistance is 290-360 ohms.thats taken with the blue/yellow wire and ground.

have you tried doing a spark test with a brand new plug?

Johnboy27 I went back and checked the coil again and it checks good, also checked the pulse generator coil and it checked good but when I checked the exciter coil it showed continuity at 20 ohms resistance after I had took the left crankcase cover off. I am going to go back in and check it again for a short. I had read on this web forum somewhere that it should check between 100 to 300 ohms.

yes the exciter coil resistance should be 100-300 ohms. also check the reverse switch. disconect the wire from the switch, the meter must read continuity in a forward gear, then shift it into reverse, should read no continuity. if every thing checks out it might be a burned out cdi.

I went back into the stator and found the black wire with the red tracer had burned the insulation off of the wire and was shorting out. Wrapped it with insulation material and put it back together. Runs like a champ again. Thanks for the info and helping me solve my problem.
