2009 Honda Rubicon
#1
Hi folks.
I just got my Honda, and want to put my old winch on it. I can't seem to find a good location for the contactor where it wont get slammed with water and soak all those wires.
I also would like to know a good wire to hook it up to so as it will be off when the bike is off.
Any suggestions...
I'm waiting for the service manual to arrive in the mail, but I can be impatient and just want to get my quad up and running.
Thanks!

Well, I hooked up the wire to the power outlet just below the information center. This made it so the winch was only on with the Key.
I wouldn't suggest mounting the contactor where I did (under the right rear fender), as my contactor got water logged and shorted out. So if you find a better place for it, let me know. Im thinking I might try to mount it inside the rear storage, and just use silicone to seal the crap out of it.

When I put a winch on my Foreman, the directions suggested to go to the side of the rear storage box. It gets bathed in water there, but so far has been fine.
I'd also hit the accessory socket wire for power to the rocker switch. It's fused, and not critical for the operation of the machine (like the ignition switch wire is).
I would also suggest soldering and heat shrink tubing for the connection as opposed to those little snap on wire tap things. That way it will never corrode or pull apart.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking I might get water logged too under the fender. I am compteplating putting inside the rear storage or between the airbox and the battery box. This is where I had it with my last quad, and it worked well since I rtv'd the heck out of it and used rubber washers along with galvanized steel washers. I wish they would just incorporate and area for the electrical connection when they design the quad.
I'll update when I install. Thanks again.
