So when I try and start my 2001 Honda 400ex it makes a weird sound. I push the ignition button with the key in and the bike in neutral. When I push the ignition button, a loud bzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound comes from the battery. So it just keeps making that sound and the bike won't start. What is wrong? Is the battery dead?

 

I have the same thing going on with a motorcycle (Yamaha) right now. The bike is new (still on warranty), so I am pretty sure the battery is good, so it is probably the starter selenoid.

 

Sounds to me like a dead battery. Or if it was cold enough out you could have frozen something up. Was it cold out?

 

nope...it has been warm outside lately. i am guessing that maybe the battery is dead because i bought it at a yard sale. and obviously the owner must of ran the bike many times for people to see. what do you think?
