Default '88 TRX350D, fuel pump replacement..Mikuni??

So my fuel pump is dead my my 88 TRX350D. It's electric, but it's also attached to the vacuum system as well (that's what triggers it to run, I think).

My question is, could I replace it with a single outlet Mikuni, therefore going all vacuum and letting the elec. side go?

According to the specs the factory pump puts out 15-19 liters per hour... the smaller mikuni is rated 14 liters per hours.

Is the factory vacuum system on the current electric pump enough to run the mikuni?

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The 1986-94 TRX350D is just electric fuel pump , they can be quite expensive to repair .. There are a number of people changing them over to a vacuum fuel pump and they work fine ..

Thanks for the reply. So let me understand correctly, the vacuum line on the current setup doesn't really do anything? Or will the simple switch out (plug up the vacuum, drop the electric lines) work? Thanks

The hose coming off the orginal fuel pump is a breather vent ..

Ahh, that makes much more sense... Thanks for the info.

I'll probably see what I can get for a cheap, low flow electric (lawn mower, small car?), and somehow restrict the flow or something so I'm not flooding it out??

This seems to be a common problem with these models...wish there was a cheaper fix than dropping $130 for the oem pump.

Ok last question (maybe). Do you (anyone) think that the pressure off the intake manifold would provide enough suction to drive a vacuum fuel pump?

It's a 4-stroke, so I can't go off the crankcase... It would be hard to fit a nipple or something on the "intake" gasket, but it might be worth a try..but I'm doubtful I'd have enough pressure.

Anybody familiar with vacuum pressure off a 4 stroke?

FYI, I replaced it with a small automotive fuel pump ($50). It seems to work fine however, I have a new issue (hopefully not related) in this post
