Default I'm new here... 400ex

I am currently about to run my first cross-country race. What should I prepare my quad for and do you have any good tips for me.

(2002 400ex, Full Big Gun exhaust, K&N filter jet kit, Baja Tires etc...)

Thanks

Running a very slick performance ester syntehtic oil can net you some extra horsepower, and at the same time give you the absolute ultimate in protection! This is because of reduced friction within the engine.

I like Redline, and Maxima Ultra and 530MX (in very cold weather) in this category. (Don't be scared off by the fact that Redline is JASO MB, and your owner's manual says MA. Redline is wet clutch safe.)

Thanks,

I use Bel-Ray full syn w/ ester 20w50. I was thinkin about re-packing my exhaust before time but I'll prolly just run straight out. I live in Indiana so the weather isn't gonna be too bad this weekend.

20W50 is appropriate for very hot weather, but the fluid drag of that thick oil will bog your crank and rob you of horsepower! Probably this time of year, in most areas a 10W40 is a better choice. If one is racing, it makes sense to change oil fairly often!
