Default 1987 TRX 350 noise on Decel

I have a 1987 TRX350 that runs strong and shifts well.
On hard deceleration I hear a clattering or clicking noise
that seems to come from transmission but not sure.
I thought it might be the limited slip front end but seems to be
coming from the bottom end. It does not make any noise on acceleration
or if I slowly decelerate. Wanted to see if this is normal or what checks I could make.
I do have the factory manual but does not address this issue.
Any help greatly appreciated, Thanks for a great forum.

It still could be the limited slip clutches , the noise can travel down the drive shaft and make it hard to spot .. When you push the bike backwards with the wheels turned a little does the front end click .. If it clicks you have to add friction modifier to it ..
I use Ford friction modifier (just because I get it at the local dealer) it is 114cc's and I mark it off in 1/5th , so 1 bottle does 5 bikes ..

Now if the noise isn't the limited slip it could be the sprag in the centrifugal clutch which works as an engine brake .. I would also adjust the manual clutch on the bike if you haven't adjusted it lately ..

HondaMechanic,
Thanks for quick reply.
I will check all areas here in just a few minutes and post my findings.
After racking my brain last night the only thing I could think of was maybe the clutch needed adjustment as it does shift quite "agressively" (really jumps into gear if you maintain throttle) but I couldnt figure what component would make the clattering type noise when rapidly slowing down.
The sound is kind of like if you lifted the decompression lever with engine running at high rpm or if you have ever accidently bumped a kick starter with engine running.
More of a clatter than a clicking and it only happens on hard decelleration, so its leading me to think of the sprag for braking the engine as you mentioned.
Does the clutch sprag make a similar noise like that for engine braking? If so, man what a scary noise ( as in expensive sounding ) to hear for the first time.
Also, is the friction modifier replacing all the gear oil or just added to it?
Thanks again for your advice and will post findings here shortly

The manual clutch will stick , if you put it in 1st gear and hold the gearshift lever up (don't release it when you shift to 1st) then hold the brake on and bleep the throttle a few times to break the clutches free , then adjust the clutch and test drive it again...
No the sprag shouldn't make a noise unless it's slipping , the sprag normally slips when the engine is turning faster than the transmission (when you have the throttle applied) , then the sprag should lock when the transmission is turning faster than the engine (when you let off the throttle) ...
