Had the same problem when rebuilding my R. I ended up putting the whole frame in a press. We tried everything: Heat, Hammer, oils. Nothing would work except the press.

i had the same problem with my 88. I ended up taking a sawsall and cutting the bolt between the frame and the swingarm at both ends ,then i put the swingarm in a vice and drilled down the center of the remaining bolt to relieve some of the preasure and then tapped it out.I have restored two R's now a 88&89 so i have experienced lots of problems like this so anyother questions you have feel free to email you and I will answer you back.if you would like to see my R's they are at http://members.home.net/banshee370/ go to quad pictures and they are under #23 and under new pictures under rad R's 89 250r

First of all, don't use a rubber mallet. Get a big hammer. I removed mine with simple hand tools. Blow torch, JB-80, WD-40, sledge hammer and some punches. It took a while but it worked. An extender for a 3/8" socket worked pretty well. Don't expect it to look pretty afterwards.

Once you do get it out, try putting a zerk fitting on the swing arm so it can be serviced, (greased) regularly.

Here's (2) pictures that I have posted for you to see exactly what I'm talking about.

I had both of my frames powdercoated and sandblasted by the same place he charged me 75$ for each frame. The shop was actually a machine shop that powder coated alot of there parts that they built and they just happened to have a honda red that they used sometimes. Since I had my last frame done the guy who did all there powder coating has quit and the guy doing it now has put out some not so good looking stuff so I would not recomend that shop anymore. But I would check around because the prices very quite a bit the range around here now is about 100-300 for a frame blasted and coated.
