HELP! MOMS TRYING TO WIN ARGUMENT ABOUT RIMS!!!
#1
OK, I'M GETTING 18" TIRES ON 8" RIMS ON THE BACK OF MY 300EX. I'M LEAVING THE STOCK FRONT TIRES AND RIMS ALONE, AND MY MOM'S TRYING TO SAY THAT YOU NEED THE EXACT SAME SIZE RIMS ALL AROUND WHEN I KNOW THAT THE FRONT RIMS SHOULD BE BIGGER THAN THE BACK RIMS IF YOU RACE ON AN MX TRACK. WHO'S WINNING THE ARGUMENT???

If she really wants to buy you tires all the way around, let her go. Compromise, most of us MXers run 19s up front. Tell her that is what you want. If shes really into it, get her to buy you beadlocks all the way around.

they don't have to be the same..if you wanted to you could run one 8" rim on the back and one 10" rim on the back...if they were they same height tire.
the times aren't the same from the factory are they? aren't they 10 ups front and 9s in the back? i don't remember off hand

Get a magazine that has pictures of the pro MX quads. Show her that the fronts are a different size and try to explain why.
If she is truely interested in the reasoning behind the tire sizes, she will understand and accept her incorrect knowledge.
If she is completely clueless, then just bore her with all the reasons until she accepts defeat.
Either way, be VERY nice. When I was younger, Mom was the person to go to if I needed something. SO don't bite the hand that feeds you.

She may be thinking of the 4x4 rule that the tires have to be the same size/ratio so you don't wreck the transfer case. Since the 300EX is 2wd, that does not apply. Try to rationally explain that the front tires should be a little taller on you MX quad for better handling. A larger rim should also help in reducing the weight of your wheel/tire. Less weight is also very helpful in racing.
Check the measurement of the stock wheels and tires. I am fairly certain they are not the same size on the 300EX. If they are... Oops, that angle will be hard to sell!
Don't lose your patince or temper with her! She is just trying to prevent you from making what she thinks is a mistake. If you can come up with data (like the stock rims hopefully not being the same size), and form a valid argument, she should come to realize you know what you are talking about in this instance. Women can be very stubborn, so don't expect to swing her your way on the first try!
