Default 88' trx250x lighting

Hi everybody. I have a 1988 trx250x atv. Everytime I replace the light bulb then start the atv and turn on the lights, the bulb will get really bright and then blow. I've checked all my grounds and they are good. I've had some people say regulator, others say stator....I know nothing about either. Any help or test procedures would be appreaciated

sounds like a regulator problem to me. it cant be the stator cause if the bulb is getting bright than it is putting out the voltage, the regulator is suppose to surpress that voltage to a safe rate, i would put a volt meter at the bulb connector and and start the bike to see how high it spikes, if it goes past 13 than you know it is the regulator

Default Batt post also

TRXRIDER is right check the voltage! Also, I would clean and check your battery posts and wires. Then check the batt voltage should be about 12 then start up and check it again. Much over 13 isn't good. don't run it very long with voltage over 14 or your battery could overheat. sounds like the regulator to me, I would open the connectors and clean them also, it doesn't take much to make it act up.

I appreciate all the help guys. I will check and clean all the connections first. I do not have a battery on this atv....so I don't have to worry about overcharging that I suppose. I guess if cleaning it doesn't work replacing it is the next step. Thanks again for all the help!
