I think thats a good choice.

If it's the thermostat then one of the radiator hoses should be a lot hotter than the other, a significant difference.

With the fan coming on I would "assume" that the thermostat is opening.

Have a great ride today.

Be sure to use motorcycle specific coolant. Automotive coolant can contain silicates and other abrasives used to control corrosion, but they are too harsh for the smaller seals on motorcycles and atv's.

Well, rode it down at River Run today. Hit plenty of mud holes, and water holes but also did some serious trail riding and climbing. The engine got hot for sure, but my over-temp light never came on.

It appears as though I wasn't cleaning my radiator properly. I think Im going to take my winch off and remove that screen because clearly Im not getting enough gunk out of it.

Also, I apparently need to start spraying from the backside, because a lot of mud came out when I did that this morning.

Thanks for the help folks. As always this is still the best place on the web for ATV questions. Love the new software too.

That is usually the cause when a liquid cooled machine overheats.

The Rincon has an oil cooler located close to the radiator, so it is critical you take off the side shrouds to spray that out. With that shroud gone you can also reach behind the radiator with a hose and spray nozzle.

I don't remember if the Rubicon is set up similarly, but if so you might also put in some spacers and longer bolts to get a bit more room between the radiator and oil cooler...
