I'm looking for information on setting up a 400EX to race M/X. Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

Airbox lid, leave it on, or take it off???

This is what the bike already has:
It's a 2001 400EX, +2+1 a-arms, 2+2 axle, white brothers pipe and silencer, white brothers cdi, denton steering stabilizer, steering stem, beadlocks on the rear, steel braided brake lines, works shocks re-worked by legacy atv, and rear stock shock re-worked by legacy atv.

i would have to say go to 14tooth front sprocket cause you will have better acceleration out of a turn. i have a k&n and rode with my lid on. i took it off once and the quad just didn't perform as well in the bottom end like i wanted it to. most of the track in which i raced were small and very tight,so 1,2 gear were the main gears so work on your bottom end rather then top.

If you have not replaced the stock handlebars I would do so because the stock bar will bend if you should end upside down. But your quad sounds as if you are ready to go have some fun at the track! Also you didn't say what size tires you are running but might need some smaller for mx. Ride hard and win!

Mx quad- I would have to say some nerf bars. A little extra safety and i noticed when i went riding with them the fist time i had more ***** than i normally do when it comes to jumping.

FFR-Have you gotten your dmc yet? Last week one of my buddies went riding over in your area behind Turk's and he went with a couple people to somebodies farm.

Sounds like your pretty close. I agree with the nerfs. Lid off, K&N jet kit and filter, 172 main under 3000 feet should be real close, check to be sure. I'm pretty happy with my renthals but I feel handlebars are a preference thing as long as they are strong.

Did you get your 440 kit in Michigan and what about the custom cam. I'm thinking about going with a 440 on my EX. Who do you think is the best shop in MI or Ohio. Also how do you like the PC exhuast? Thanks.

4Tecate

I sent my cylinder and head to CT's Boring and Machine in SC. They have a small ad in the back of Dirtwheels. I am very happy with the work they did. I really like the Pro Circuit pipe, more power with a nice sound. Where do you live in Milan?

I live right next to Milan dragway and since Cycle City is next door I am thinking about getting back into racing. I have not mx raced since the late 80's on my Warrior. If you want to go riding somtime, email me.
