you have to cut and file a piece of your front brake perch off so the hand guard extends out further no biggie.

The first of many puffs I am afraid.
It will do that until the rings seat good, and unless you are real lucky it will start doing it again not long after that.
You could almost say that this is an XR250 engine with a 400cc big bore kit on it... and it is air cooled. So the tolerances can't be all that tight, and if they are, they are not likely to stay that way very long unless you are real lucky.
But it's not a bad thing exactly... more like the nature of the beast.
It's going to puff a little smoke, and peck and tap and and tick and rattle and so forth.
But it's still going to run forever.
