should i cut my plastics?
#1
i was thinking of cutting my beat up plastics and then painting them. i remember seeing a site with someone giving step by step tips on how to cut plastics. they were showing an example on a zilla. if anyone knows the site, send it to me. also, what kinda of paint would hold up the best on atv fenders. i was thinking of buying the stuff that krylon makes for outdoor furniture. i think its called latex enamel.
thanks

painting plastic is a BAD idea. I don't think it will ever hold
cutting is easy..just cut with a hack saw..sand it down with fine sand paper..at an angle
maier race cut plastic is only about 220 dollars a complete set..just go for that..

I agree, painting plastic is a bad idea. Especially on a vehicle that gets so much abuse. The paint simply won't stay on. That's why they use colored plastics. But if you do decide to paint, use a paint especially made for plastics. Pectra makes a line of paint used on RC Models (cars, planes, etc.) It's not cheap, but is made for covering surfaces that flex. BE SURE you get the right paint for the material also. Some of the plastic paints do not stick well to anything other than the specific plastic they are made for.
Hope this helps.

well just think about it...if they make weather resistant paint that doesnt stick to your shorts when you sit on it for hours for outdoor furniture then i dont think it will fall off. i was going to get maier plastics but if i spend $250 on plastics, theres no way in hell im cutting them. my old plastics are a little rough on the edges so im cutting them off. they are also scratched pretty bad so im going to sand them down and try to paint them..no primer though, i tried using regular spray paint when i painted the rear fenders on my trike and the under layer of primer which was gray stuck out really bad when i got a small scratch. ill try it because with the old plastics..theres nothing to loose
ill let you know how i do

I used a saber saw, to do the first cut and left myself alot of plastic to work with then used an orbital sander starting with rough then using finer and finer sand paper to shape and smooth the fender to the shape I wanted, take you time and they will look sweet!!
