2007 400ex-start in reverse
#2
Remove your hood and locate the CDI. There are two wire connectors, one with four wires and one with two wires. On the four wire connector locate the wire that is grey with the black stripe. Peel back the tape, if needed, and cut this wire. You may want to leave enough wire at the connector so you can hook it back up if you want to. Use electrical tape to cover both ends of the cut wire to prevent them from touching each other or something else.
Your quad will now start in reverse and the reverse light will still work.
Keep in mind that this also disables the reverse rev limiter.

I know this post is old, But if you want to start your Honda in reverse but want keep your Rev limiter do the following. Shouldn't cost you more than 25.00 in parts if you have to buy them all from your Auto store. You'll need the following parts minimum, a 5 post relay, Connectors to fit to the relay and some splice connectors. Snip your Grey/black wire from your CDI and leave ample wire to crimp connectors on. Attatch greay black to terminals to 30 and 87a. now take post 85 and ground it to frame or battery.Take post 86 and attatch it to the signal wire for your starter.
Now when your in reverse and you press the starter the relay will activate removing that signal and it will start, As soon as you release the start button the relay de-activates and you stilll have your reverse limiter.
If you really want this mod to look nice an be weather tight you should get some shrink tubing and dielectric grease to protect the connectors from the weather. Worst case relay won't activate and you have to shift to a forward gear like normal. Or I could make and sell you a kit.... there's an idea
