Price-new/used

Aloha everyone, I'm new to this forum & to atvs...need a little help please.
There's a '05 Rancher $2800 & 05 Forman $3500. The rancher's been run into a tree so the front fender is bust up, skid plate re-weilded & the guys X took his keys. Local dealer says 50 bucks- new ignition w/new keys & 140 for 1 piece ft. fender unit. Labor's about $300-3hrs depending "how frozen the bolts are". On this little island there's lots of moisture/salt air to wreck havoc on any machinery-these are 4-5yrs old already.
I'm going towards the rancher (going to see it tomorrow)...because of it's smaller size (I'm 6' 230lbs) just want to squrrel around my tree farm, no heavy utility use, just for fun.
btw...From what I've so far gathered on this forum: stick with standard manual tranny...the auto/elec. ones have alot of problems...is that true or no?
anyway......Are these fair prices? the guy doesn't want to negotiate because that's what he STILL owes on them. Wants to just get out & move on. Says he bought them to bond with his son (the one who ran into the tree), which didn't work out, so they basiclly been parked...as the story goes.
Which leads me to next question: does anyone know Dealers "real" base cost-not including freight, tax, etc? For example, Ranchers current MSRP $6000-7000. Let's say $6000 MSRP....would it be safe to assume dealers real cost is 3000-4000? (not including his extra fees)
Thanks for your help~

For used ATV prices, check out NADA @
New Car Prices, Used Car Values, New Car Reviews & Car Buying Guides - NADAguides.com Official Site
Don't bother looking at the Kelly Blue Book--the KBB lists suggested prices--not actual. NADA prices are averages from actual dealer sales.
Don't know of any free websites for dealer invoice prices. Do a Google search, as there are websites that have the invoice prices; fees typically run $8-$10 for each request.

Welcome to the forums.
I would think the prices may be a little higher for you, as compared to those of us in the contiguous states. Just a lot easier to get everything here as opposed to shipping it half way across the Pacific.
Personally, I'd be leaning towards the one that wasn't wrecked.

welcome!! where are you located? i would spend the extra $$ and go for the foreman for the same reason as stated above: it is not wrecked. you never know if the frame is twisted a tad, and then stuff just never works the same again. my 2 cents...

I don't know about atv dealers, but I would think they work along the same lines as an auto dealer. It's not so much their cost, as the amount of incentives they can get. Sell that Factory warranty, buyer doesn't know how much they really have for rebates, add extra parts etc...

Anyway, I gave them the Rancher and 2800 cash...plus 50 for some trauma fund that is applied to atvs, motorcycles and golf carts. It's a state law here in MS.
