Default 03 honda rancher 350 problem

My 03 rancher has 300 miles, I inherited it from my father inlaw who passed last summer, when i got it the machine had 100 miles or so on it, the machine never had any matienence done to it so i changed all the fluids , serviced the air filter the only thing i didnt do was adjust valves.

I have had it up north on the trails 2 times this year and put on a little more then 200 miles and it ran perfect both times, now i havent run it in about a month and went to start it today and i couldnt keep it running without the choke untill it was really warm and it was back firing (more like little pops).

so i know i need to adjust valves, but could this be my problem? i know i have good gas, I guess my other concern is ive been using this filter oil called fab 1 and its some super sticky stuff and works great on stoping stuff,I wonder if im over oiled and its running to rich or something like that.

Im thinking i going to get the valves adjusted first and go from there. any thoughts?

hoyt

Try having your carb reuilt and cleaned, mine did the exact same thing you are describing, so i went to a dealer and had the carb cleaned and now it starts right up and runs great! It costed me around $125.00

yep was thinking about pulling the carb and cleaning it, the machine didnt get much use since it was bought and probably did have some bad gas in it the past years.

pulled the carb and cleaned it, it was a little dirty but not bad, still runs like a donkey and backfiring through the carb, if anyone has a rancher look at my other thread the carb one with the pic. so i know if a hose goes on it.

Im thinking valves need to be adjusted.

should be a tool in the tool kit that allows you to shift the tranny
