Just bought my new machine home last night. 1st Honda quad we've owned. We rode it less than 1/2 hr. yesterday in low 50 degree temps. Last night we let it idle in garage (40 degrees) for less than 10 minutes and the pipes were CHERRY red and glowing. Whats up????? Call dealer this morn. and said it needs rejetted?? Please help!! Thank you.

Yeppers you need to rejet the dealer is right. Your bike cannot handle the amount of fuel that is being put into the cylinder which is causing it to be expelled into the exhaust and igniting in your pipe causing the head pipe to glow cherry red.
Do not worry though it is a simple fix that will take about 5 min.
Hope this helps

Have a good one

If its new, Honda should take care of the problem. Glowing pipes usually represents a lean air gas mixture. If you let it go it could and probably will cause engine damage. Take it back to the dealer and make them fix it.

Its going back right now. Could the short time we rode it hurt it as far as breakin goes?? Is jetting a dealer prep item? I wonder why Honda would ship them jetted like that. We could have toasted it. Thanks all for your input. Looking forward to some goodtimes with it. Just joined a new ATV club in the area. 200+/- members have signed up already in only a couple months as a new organization.

I would not worry about it harming anything I see it happen all the time And no one that it has happened too ever hurt anything.
You will usally see it happen to people as soon as the weather warms up if they jetted for the winter no big deal though.
I hope you have many long and good rides on your new quad. The 400ex is a nice atv.........But I am a polaris man so I will not hold it against you for owning one.....lol (Just Kidding)

Have a good one
