1986 350 TRX FourTrax Old Guy Needs Help
I am 64 years old. Bought this machine last year. I know the previous 2
owners since it was new. No kids ever rode it and has never been abused.
Low mileage, excellent condition. I use it around my place and ride once
a week with 10 - 20 older guys maybe 15 - 20 mile rides.
Some of the guys tell me the valves are clicking. I can't hear that because
my hearing is going south - thanks Uncle Sam, loud equipment I ran over
the years, and not a few rifle shots in my ears.
Does any one have info on how to adjust valves on this ?
Like what to take off, Plastic etc ?
Any special tools ?
I have no idea what to do ---
Any help would be appreciated
By the way, this machine is bulletproof, nothing ever breaks,
but it's not a lot of fun to ride over the rocks.
Been lurking around this forum for a year or two -
You guys are the best !!!!
I live in upstate central New York
Many thx for any help you can give me

Honda Mechanic - we set the valves - better ears than mine say it is now quiet.
Thank you very much for your help and to others on this forum.
I do not know what you do or where you live, but I would be pleased
to buy you lunch or whatever if we ever meet up.
One last question, I have never heard the cooling fan come on ,
but I never ride it hard. Should I be concerned with this ?
How would I check it to make sure it is working ?
Or should I start a new thread ?
Never seems to over heat.
Damn, us old timer Guys and machines never quit asking questions !!!
TNX again

Ask the previous owner's, if they ever adjusted the valves? I will bet they never ever did.....
Valve adjustments are the most frequently neglected aspect of maintenance!!! The most important one, is that first one at 20 hours right after the engine is nicely broken in. I have frequently found my valves to be out of spec at that first adjustment, then they usually are right on for the next 10 years.
And get over the "old guy" stuff. I'm not as old as you (but getting up there), and teenagers eat my dust (even on foot!), and I only date women who are half my age!

I just sold that same machine, and it is indeed bulletproof.
I will tell you though, that I replaced it with 2 others, a 2004 foreman and a 2008 foreman with power steering. It won't come as a shock to anyone that the 04 is a nicer ride, and the 08 is nicer than that.....but, I'm not here to brag.
As for that machine, it's a great bike, but you will find that parts are becoming hard to find for it. Before I sold mine, and the reason I decided to sell it, was that I couldn't find parts anywhere except surplus. So, I decided to fix what I could and sell it before it broke down for good and I couldn't find parts to fix it.
You might want to at least consider that, and since you've been riding for a while, if you do buy a newer machine, you'll be saying "man, this rides so much better than the old one"
