McLean Creek (Bragg CReek) outside of Calgary is good for lots of steep trails and a few fast logging roads, lots of people always riding around, but lots of mud and 4x4 ruts too (as wel as stuck trucks to get around or help push out), I can give anyone good directions to the camping spot by Hinton sand dunes if you want, but the dunes get boring quickly (very small) but there are still tons of beutiful trails in that whole area, my 2nd fav spot. Never been to Vega. Wypress(sp) area (towards Sundre) is alright for gravel type hills and roads, a few good little climbs, but Bragg is better.

My favorite place is behind Rocky Mtn House past cow lake, theres an awesome camping spot by a creek and miles of muddy trails with all kinds of scenic spots and good climbs, but very muddy.

Cadomin has by far the best trails I've seen in Goat Mountain Rec Area (like highways), but theres a lot of idiots flying down them as fast as they can go, and they are talking about closing the whole area for mining which would be a shame. A little south of there you can beat your way ritgh to the peak of a few serious mountains, rough tight trails but very scenic. And a long gravel road to get there with many big trucks on it isn't good for a new paintjob.

Does anyone know of some badland riding areas around Lethbridge? Drumgeller? I'd like to do that.

I have been to Cadomin, Hinton (dunes), Rocky Mountain House (cow lake), as well as out by St. Paul and up here at home in Ft. McMurray. I have to say some of the best riding in the province is in Rocky and Cadomin. If you get out to Rocky, you have to blast up to the old fire watch station, it is definately worth it. It makes a great late evening (stiil light out) ride, and you don't get wet. If anyone is looking to hook up to ride email me.

Hey Partech, you are only some 2 hours from Hinton, you should be there at least once a month, what do you mean wait till fall!

If you're looking for mud and creek crossings and rough steep rocky trails, Rocky Mnt House won't disappoint, but the place to go is a good ways past Rocky down some gravel roads, so thats probably around 3.5 hours for you.

Well Hinton has a lot of regular muddy rocky trails, some real nice ones, the sand dunes are only about 5 km along one part of the Athabasca river, so unless you already have the tires I'd say its not worth the investment.. it is only fun to sand drag up this one little hill with the paddles, there are usually a couple paddle Banshees there to race, but for the most part having paddles just takes the fun out of climbing those hills since they are not that big. Its a little more of a challenge with knobbies.

I am just thinking of getting knobbies now that work good for sand.
