Default 83 honda atc200 wont start can u help?

I recently picked up a honda atc200. When i got it started on 1-3pulls and ran good while half choked but died wide open. Then the carb started leaking. I took it apart looked like junk so i got a new 1. Got it running agian still only at half choke. Dont know if i got it adjusted right. But after riding it a couple times the pull rope broke. I replaced it and now cant get it 2 fire at all. It has blue spark and with plug out will blow your thumb off the hole so i think compression is good. I dont know much about this stuff. If you can help me it will be greatly appreciated Thanks

Welcome to the forums, by new do you mean new or new to you. Running only on half or full choke usually means the pilot jet is clogged.

Default 83 honda atc200 wont start can you help?

Its a brand new carb not rebuilt. Got it on ebay said just adjust idle screw n go. I did adjust it but only running at half open choke. Wouldnt run wide open. It ran good at half choke would pull front tire off ground. I know it should be open but couldnt get it 2 run that way and now wont even start. Any help is appreciated. I need it dont know much about working on atvs. Thanks

Have you checked that's it's getting enough fuel to the carb? I have an 82' and the part of the petcock that goes into the tank is long as in if the gas in the tank is lower than about 2" it can't pick any up. Get a new plug too it's probably fouled from trying to start it. Pull the plug clean it as best as possible, put it back in the bike pull the cord a few times and check the plug to see if it's wet with gas. May want to clean the carb just in case. The only running on choke is a dead giveaway of clogged jets.

Also check to make sure the tank vent is clear, second the double check the carb . There should be a screen in the tank hooked to the petcock valve might be gumed up as well

Ok this makes no sense 2 me like i said it was runnin good. But after ridin it 4 a half hr i let it sit at idle 4 like 5 mins and it died. It has plenty of gas. It started back up on first pull but died after about 10 seconds. Now wont start at all agian . The new plug is wet with gas and is black. Any idea why this happend and what i can do to fix it? All suggestions are appreciated Thanks

Now it sounds like it's running rich try putting the needle in the top notch that will lean it out. Also I've seen that happen when the muffler gets clogged

I moved the needle and took the pipe and muffler off blew them out with an airhose got alot of soot outa them and put another new plug in it. Now its runnin good but sputters at high rpms. I think the muffler is 2 restrictive. The previous owner welded a lawnmower muffler on it so im gunna try 2 find a good used 1. Thanks agian 4 all the help

Check the timing try to get rid of that sputter, had one doing the same thing cleared it right up.
