Lightbulb 400EX or 700XX

I am buying a new quad from a dealer in my area. I can get either an 07 400EX($4173 OTD) or an 08 700XX for $4694 OTD. So price is not a concern but curious about the handling of the 700 when it comes to playing with it. I have hunting 4 wheelers and am buying this one solely to play on. I will be riding trails and creekbeds and some sand dunes. I have heard that the rear suspension on the 700 works so well it doesn't like to "powerslide" and when it does you have to be extra careful caus eit bites and goes when ever it gets ready. also I am concerned about the weight of the whole thing. I am leaning more towards the 400 at this point but if I knew the 700 would be as fun to ride as far as playing around goes
I would likely go with it. I am 5'8 and weigh around 220#. I have had sport quads in the past and have been wanting one for a while and dont wanna pass up one of these deals. My other question is how does the black plastic hold up as far as staying new looking?

OK I will talk first. as a loyal 400ex owner I can tell you it is an awsome machine.. for trail riding and playing around.. But the 700 is a doff machine. It "plays" very diff. If you are familiar with solid axle and have never rode an IRS this wll feel odd. I have rode both and if you like to hang it out and power slide the 700 by nature does as you say bite... a nature of the beast... Wher as the 400 just hangs it out and lets you give throttle at will to control. In the trails.. the 400 loved to lug the first couple gears... all day long... I found myself looking for higher RPM's on the 700 just to lug around.. The ride was better with the 700, bit I was always "needing: to go faster than I might have wanted to be. You mentionioned sand..... well that is all about 700... power and IRS.. So you are in a tight spot.. but with prices like that OTD.. go for what fits right.. your weight or height will not matter much to either... good prices.. I would jump on either.. But being bias... I would choose the 400... and after exhaust and reeds, would not feel to much diff in power. good luck and keep us posted

I'd go with the 400ex......its lighter and handles better and is as bullet proof as any motorized vehicle in the history of mankind......seriously 1,000 years from now when mutants are all that is left on Earth they will be riding in packs on Honda 400ex ATVs.

My buddy bought a 700xx and loves it, but he's a guy that normally rides a Rincon IRS. He's a "sit down" rider and if you are a "sit down" rider something with IRS might be cool. But if you don't mind standing up through the rough stuff, and like to rail berms, don't get a 700xx......

Powersliding corners is MUCH better with a SRA than IRS...go with the 400ex if those are your only choices.

Black plastic looks like total crap after your first ride in any sort of mud or dirt...it shows scratches and dirt worse than any other color and you WILL be disappointed in having to deal with the problems.
