Whats the best way to store your machine through the winter, gas tank full with some sort of addative to it, or empty the gas tank, if I empty the gas tank will it rust up.

Best way is to dump the tank but you can add stabil to a tank full and it should be ok if its going to sit for less tham 3 months.

Best thing to do is put Stabil in the gas tank, but turn the petcock to off and run the engine with the fuel turned off until it dies and won't restart. This way you get all the fuel out of the carb and it won't start to varnish up and clog the carb's components.

I stored a Honda trx300 at my farm this way for years. I rode it on a weekend every month or two, and as long as I ran the carb dry before I shut it off (and pulled the tarp over it and closed it up in the barn) it fired up within three turns every time I came out to ride it. You should also use a trickle charger for your battery (Deltron makes some good ones for a reasonable price...look on eBay)

Change your oil BEFORE storing it, as well as other fluids if you are so inclined

Most tanks these days are plastic, not metal, so rust may not be an issue. Some old models may have metal and I think the 300EX still does (???).

If you have an owner's manual, it has the procedure for long term storage.

For me, winter layup is short enough that I don't find fuel stabalizer necessary.

If you do run stabil, don't use more than the recommended dose.

Personally, even on plastic tanks I store them full, unless it is going to be in storage more than a few months.

Always turn the gas off and drain the carb or run the float bowl dry. Even if it is only parked a few weeks, it starts better.

I also run a battery tender Jr on everything.

Lastly, the best plan for winter storage is to go down to southern Arizona and ride...
