Default Help! Fuel problem with 1986 fourtrax 350 4x4

I have a 1986 fourtrax 4x4 that will not run. Here's what I've done so far: New fuel pump, I have no power to the fuel pump when I turn on the ignition key, no power while cranking the starter, I do have power to the fuel pump when I release the starter button, but quad will not run while fuel pump is plugged into the power wires on the quad. If I hook the fuel pump up to an external battery, it runs and will start the quad. The quad runs great while fuel pump is connected to an external battery, but when I reconnect to the pigtails on the quad will run for a few minutes and run out of fuel. Battery is new, and I've tried this while a large starter/charger is connected to the quad battery, so I don't think voltage is an issue, unless there is a voltage drop between the battery and the fuel pump power wires. I haven't checked votage to the pump. What should it be?

Please help!

check for a relay or fuse of some sort between pump, starter switch, ignition switch. Also, ohm out voltage regulator.
Good luck
