adjusting 400ex front suspension help?

adjusting 400ex front suspension help?
so today i tried to make my front susp. plusher with a c wrench. the problem is that it wouldn't budge. i came here to ask if it would be ok to hammer the wrench in order to force it to move? would wd-40 help in making it easier to turn? just taking a safety precaution; don't wanna break anything.
