300EX - Which one?
#1
So I went out and looked at a 300EX this past weekend, and liked it. So now comes the question of NEW, or slightly used. Here are my choices:
2007 - NEW - $4999.00 (red only)
2008 - NEW - $4999.00 (red OR white)
2008 - USED red with no warranty, and has nerf bars, FMF exhaust, and K&N, at teh same place as the new '08, $4200 - From what I see, it looks new, still has teh hairs on teh sides of the front tires.
I want a '07+ as I don't like the look of the -'06, and I am a red fan (White looks sharp till is is marked up!!).
I am going to see what addon's I can get out of the dealers on the new ones, see if I can get nerf bars included and ?? (any suggestions)
What are your thoughts? I think the used '08 seems like a good deal, as I get ~$700 CDN of upgrades, and save $800, so it is like saving $1500 + taxes. But I do like having a bike out of the box, and knowing all the abuse that it has ever seen! Just cause it looks new, does not mean is has never been swimming, or beat on mechanically!
Any input is welcome!
PS, the pipe, bars and filter is something I see my self doing on a "new" one, so it is added value.

I am thinking one of the the new 2008's. If you can afford it just go ahead and buy the new one, I am sure the used one looks and runs like new but you don't know what it's been through.

I never buy used! I might be willing to consider it at some point, if I knew the previous owner very very well and they are just as dilligent about maintenance as I am. Proper break-in is all important ( Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power ), and almost everyone neglects valve adjustments.
I know from first hand experience that K&N's pass dirt, so that would be the killer on the used one. Remember...lots of folks put on aftermarket tires right away. That means they have the new stock tires in storage, and then when they go to sell it they put them back on and you think it has no miles on it. Plus good plastic can make any old turd look new. I would only consider it if the dealer can absolutely vouch for its history....

I think I will see what either dealer is willing to put with there 300EX (the new 07 and 08) to get my business!

Regardless, if he has the money to buy new, he might as well buy a new one. When you buy a new machine, you get to break it in the way you would like to and you also have the benefit of knowing all that has happened to it and its maintenance history and such. And if I were you I would shop around because new ATV's aren't exactly flying off the showroom floor, at least here they aren't, there are lots of great deals on new vehicles to be found these days.

I never buy NEW. Well, not yet anyway. I am sure glad SOMEBODY buys new and takes the hit on the first year value. Then, as long as I do my homework and am diligent), I get 95% of new for half the money. People say the never buy used because you never know what you get. But I look at it like "Hey, every single quad you see out there on the trail is used." Same with cars & trucks. Every one of them on the road is used.

If he has the money to buy new he should, he is buying it from a stealership anyways so for $800 more he might as well go for the brand new one! I have bought my fair share of new and used quads/bikes and it's always a great experience when you get to ride it right out of the showroom...As long as you plan on keeping it for a few years and continue to ride it you won't regret it.

If you had a choice, would you prefer a virgin or a hooker??? Enough said!
