Default UNI air filter question

I have had this problem before on a different quad. Now I have it again on my Recon. When I tighten the band clamp on my UNI filter, it slips off the end of the filter nose. I cleaned the oil off the nose and the inside of the band as best I could but you know how goopy and messy that oil filter oil is. Anyone else have this problem? What the best thing to clean up that sticky oil with?

I'd use rubbing alcohol.

hot soapy water and a thorough rinse will usually do the trick. That's the best way to clean a UNI filter to begin with.

I clean the lips of my filters and the cage with a paper towel that has been soaked in a little gas.

You have the plastic support cage inside the filter, right??? Those cage lips will eventually warp under the pressure of the band, and need to be replaced now and then. A good symptom indicating this, is just what you have described. Even when dry and properly cleaned, they won't stay on anymore. Also, the cage lip can get warped so badly that it can pass dirt, so be careful not to neglect it!

I will try to clean it with gas. The filter is brand new. What worries me is if the band slips off during a day riding without me knowing it. Then I would be passing dirt and dust and could do major damage.

Also clean the rubber intake boot on the machine with a gas soaked paper towel. I have never lost a filter that was properly cleaned.

Also, don't make the band to tight. Just tight enough to seal things off. When you go to tight, it just warps the collar on the cage all the sooner.

Ok. Thanks ReconRanger, you're always a great help around here.

Maybe you can help me with this one? How do you adjust the pilot screw on a 99 recon? What I did was use a screw bit from one of those bit changing screwdrivers but it was difficult. I had to reach way under the carb and be a contortionist.
