Smile Carb/choke cable question!

Yes it's me again...lol! I replaced the carb on my TRX300 today and have a couple of questions. The carb I put on turns out to be a VE90a which from what I can tell is from a 88-90??? and has a #120 main. a #42 slow and a #85 starter jet and mine was a VE91a from a 94 which I think has a #125 main, #40 slow and a #80 starter jet! Should I switch the jets from my old one to this one or will things be fine as they are? Also I thought that the cables were the same on all years from 88-95 but I guess I was wrong. The one from the 88 had a grove in it to accept a clip to hold it into the plastic **** where it screws into the carb itself and mine did not have this grove and the **** end was bigger. Also either the cable is longer or mine was streched alot??? Does anyone know for sure what yrs cables had that grove?
Thanks again!

Your carb swap project is turning into what most of my daily projects have been looking like lately.lol.

Ok,..first of all,...according to the aftermarket,..ALL 88-95 TRX 300 models use the same choke cable. However, Honda says no. They are the following...
88-93...... Part# 17950-HC4-671
94-95....... Part# 17950-HM5-671
96-00......Part# 17950-HM5-950

So there's 2 different cables that apply to the 88-95 series and one after that making for 3 different cables in all.

Now,..the starter valves (choke plungers)...
88-93....Part# 16046-HC4-840
94-00....Part# 16046-HM5-730

The choke lever on the left side handlebar is the same on all 88-95 models so that's not going to be an issue with a cable swap.

Sooo, since you are using a carb older than a 94, you now have a different starter valve set and need the cable to match it. (You cant switch the starter valves from one carburetor to the other).

So unless you have the choke cable that came with this different carburetor you have, you will need to order part# 17950-HC4-671 from your local Honda dealer to make it all work properly.
As for the jetting differences between the two carbs, it isn't going to hurt anything at all.
Honda made no changes to the engines during any of those years but did make changes to the carbs from time to time so sticking with the jetting that comes with each carburetor is the way to go. I wouldnt swap over jets from the carb you just took off.

Ok so all I need to do is replace that cable and everything else is fine, sounds good. The cable for this carb was broke so I don't have it but have mine kinda working for now. I am looking for a cable and if I can't come up with one will get one from the dealer when ready! Thanks again for the info and thanks for the part #'s. It will make things easier in the long run!
