300ex axle replacement issues...plz help?!
#1
I have an 02 honda 300ex that I bought last year for my girl to ride. As the season came to an end, so did the rear axle carrier bearings. In an attempt to replace the bearings, I realized that the large nuts holding the axle on were seized on, along with the rest of the components. I ended up sawzalling the axle off. When I finally got to the carrier, it was rusted out and trashed so I decided to replace it all. I got myself a twin row axle carrier on ebay that came with bearings, seals, etc. I got myself a used +1 durablue axle. I got a new sprocket hub and brake disc hub as well as all o rings, clips, collars, etc that were shown in the microfiche.
So everything should come together just fine, right? WRONG. I get teh sprocket hub onto the axle and slide the axle through the carrier. I slide the brake disc hub onto the axle and proceed to slide the two large nuts onto collar with the threads. I then pop the clip around the axle. Now...the large nut is supposed to force the disc hub into teh carrier as it is turned and pushed against the clip in the opposite direction.
Well, the problem is that I have the nut screwed all the way out but theres still atleast a quarter inch of room before the anything is even tight.
Furthermore, even if that sleeve/collar did provide an extra 1/4 inch of threads for the nut to twist on....I dont think the splines on the disc hub side would allow it to slide far enough into the carrier. The splines seem to end prematurely.
At this point, Im extremely frustrated. I dont know what I'm missing or if I have an incorrect/incompatible part. I keep looking at teh microfiche, and theres nothing Im missing. Do durablue axles need special axle carriers? Any help advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I really wanna get this thing working so I can ride it or sell it.

I'm not understanding this whole "sprocket hub" thing. These axles have the sprocket hub pressed on from the factory...even the factory axle from Honda comes this way.
I'm gonna suggest that your problem lies there. Either the wrong hub, the hub not placed properly, or maybe it's not even the correct axle.

this sprocket hub thing im referring to is that the durablue axle I received was a bare axle...there were no hubs or anything attached to it. I then ordered a 300ex sprocket hub that said it was for durablue axles only. waddaya think?

Well it seems you have the correct hub and as long as it was installed in the correct direction and fully seated,..that shouldnt be an issue...so long as it's a 300EX axle.
Do you have anyway to post a picture of it from the rear?

sorry to bring up an old thread but i am having the same problem with a 250x, the sleeve the locknuts thread onto are splined, but no splines are showing after the brake hub is on, also, even though i have the large nut threaded as far as it will go, there is not enough room to get the clip in.
