Default Honda Rubicon from earlier post

OK so i checked the oil since the hondamatic runs off of the engine oil. It was very thick and black. there was hardley any oil that would come out where the oil filter is. could something be clogged up and keeping the transmission from engaging.
thanks for any help

How long has that oil been in there?

Is this the one that won't move when you put it in gear? If so, did you ever check the oil pressure?

well, if it was run dry on oil, then your oil pump is burnt up, this would cause the hondamatic not to work.

Yeah, or if the oil pump drive chain came off...

In either case you may be running the motor without oil pressure, and possibly causing severe damage.

The thing has an oil pressure test port, but it is a funky thread pitch. If it were mine I'd change the oil and filter and not start the engine again until I could haul it to a dealership and have the oil pressure tested.

Thanks for the info guys. One more question. What is this thing worth as it sits. I am getting tired of fooling with this thing and would really like to get rid of it.
heres what it has
-25 in ITP Mudlite XL tires
-2500 lb Mile marker winch
-Gun rack
-Tree stand rack
-good plastic and racks
-all electrical works fine
-1000 + hours

Not much if it doesn't run and ride.

At least take it to a dealer and see what's going on. If it isn't the hydrostat unit, repair might not be that much.
