is a 250x bigger then a 250ex in size?

The 250X is the same size frame as the 300EX, so yes I believe the 250x is a tiny bit bigger.
The important difference (to me) is that the 250X had a fully manual clutch, and disc brakes front and rear. 250X is also a chain drive

The 250EX is just a Recon with front disc brakes, sport wheels, better suspension, and flashy plastic. No nicer way to put it. I don't dislike the machine, but it is the dud of Honda's sport lineup that has spanned for 30 years now. Seriously, how does Honda consider this a sport machine when most competitors 90cc quads run circles around it??
Yes, the 250EX is smaller than the older 250X.
The 250EX is Shorter, Narrower, Heavier, and Weaker. The 1987-1992 250X may as well be a 450R when compared to the shaft drive 250EX.
