Default TRX700 XX input needed

I am considering trading in my snowmobile for one of these but am wondering how they are compared to other quads in terms of dependability and ridability. They have a brand new '08 here selling for $4999. They also have a holdover TRX 450 SE for sale also for roughly the same price. Not sure which I would prefer.

I have read a few reviews on the 700XX before and over all, it was a good rating. The engine in them is no where near its potential which would only burn the tires up but it has plenty of low end power and is also fast on top. It is best on fast trails that have some rough terrain. The 450s' are still best on the track and for the most part, match the acceleration of the 700XX. One negative with the 700 was the weight. Its a heavy sport quad. I have ridden a stock 450R and it is more than i can handle, or want to handle. If you ride tracks and mostly flat terrain with hills and jumps, i would go with the 450s' all day. If you burn up the trails with many types of terrain then the 700XX would be a great bike. If im not mistaken, the 700 has reverse and most 450s' dont. That may or may not be an issue for you.

Mixed trails by us. I have no plans of racing. I have a 4x4 quad for mud and snow already but am thinking I would like the 700 for trail cruising. Actually it is a heavy quad but the weights posted is curb weight and the 450 has a dry weight listed. I seen in an article that the 700 is only 50 pounds heavier with both machines gassed up and other fluids.

In that case, i would say the 700XX would be a great choice for you. Plenty of speed and power on fast trails with , in those conditions, probably a better and smoother ride due to the independent rear suspension. Another great plus with the 700XX, in that type of terrain, is higher ground clearance, also due to the independent rear suspension. The rear sprocket and brakes on the rear of low profile straight axle machines are more prone to being bashed by trail debris like limbs, rocks, and what have you. The 450s' are great and powerful machines in their intended use but with your riding habitats, you would benefit more with the 700XX imo. If you get it, post back with a report of how it does for you. I would be interested in hearing about it.

My only real concern would be that it looks like zero splash protection in the puddles.

Thats true but it would be that way with all newer sport atvs'. The 450s' have front removable fenders that are about the size of my hand. Just give the beast throttle and ride a wheelie over all the puddles.

i have a 700xx and they are great. they can go through about anything. they are the best trail quad i have ever ridden. the 450r might be a little quicker but the 700xx is very reliable and powerful. the independent suspension makes for a great ride.
