Default 99 foreman 450 ES electric shifting problem

While back my father in law bought a 99 foreman for $300 buck. Yea it was a killer deal. Just needed the front end rebuilt and some brakes and what not. Recently the electric shift has been acting up. It started not wanting to shift very easily. You could rock it back and forth a little and make it shift. Now it is alot worse. It sounds very week when you hit the shift buttons and i can hardly get it to even go into gear now. Is there a solenoid that runs this system or what? Thanks for any info in advance.

I would first take the shift control motor apart and clean it ..
