Well.. i don't think they are the same.. i think the 400's are just a couple inches longer then the 300's....

I'd like to know why you'd do such a thing? why not keep it a true 400?

the frame was painted and you can not read what the vin number says

You know what "no papers" sounds like right?

Cant you sand the paint off the vin should be stamped into the frame.

I don't think sanding is the answer.... it'll sand the plate off... then you'll never get the numbers...

Does it have a registration? that should have the VIN... then maybe the dealer or the state has or can get a title/Cert of origin...

There are lots of products available to strip paint off of just about anything, including metal. If it's just a simple matter of not being able to read the VIN because it has paint on it I think I'd try one of these products before I decided to tear my entire quad apart and re-assemble it on a "new" frame that does have a VIN.

Who knows where the "new" frame came from, stolen quad maybe? Could be getting yourself into more trouble down the road.

I have never and never will buy a quad/bike/snowmobile that does not have the title or registration that goes along with it.

Bikes, quads, snowmobiles get stolen all the time, be careful what you buy. Cops or DNR don't care where you got it from all they know when they run the VIN is it's stolen. Oh, and when they conveniently can't read the VIN because it was "painted over", you better be able to come up with the correct paperwork and a good story pretty quick.

Not trying to poo poo this thread, I'm sure 200es is on the up and up, just sharing some info that I hope helps others.
