Default Fuel Shut Off Valve Position

Hello people. I am new to this site, so I'm not sure of the decorum. I have a stupid question. What is the correct position for the fuel shut off valve to be in, in order for fuel to flow. I bought an 85 Honda 200 m last fall. Just tried getting it to run, but no luck. Not sure what is the correct position for the valve to be open. Thanks

Tony

The **** should be pointing in the same direction as the line! If it is 90deg to the line it is off.

heythere, are NO silly questions .. ok, that being said , here's a silly answer ....on my 85 on is on and off is off and res is off or the other way around anyway, 1/2 way between on and off is on. yea, that's the one. on is off, beTWEEN on and off is on. Same for the fuel tank vent. I had it ON but after sitting in the sun, I turned it for some reason and it hissed a little off of the on position so it could finally breathe.and allow fuel to flow. What i do now is open the float bowl drain screw, let it drain all the way, like a shotglass and then turn the gas valve on or to whatever position you chose and you will see if its flowing, or you can put a clean piece of fuel line on it and see if it blows bubbbles in the various poistions. Also the ON siphon tube is really long, like 3 or 4 inches tall off the bottom of the tank so if your tank gets a little low, it may not get fuel. You can see it with a flashlight or better yet, a mirror in the sun to look into the tank I can only say this because I have around 20 of these honda things and they are all different. got spark?
