What procedures should you take after you sink your atv and get it out?

Also how about when you tip it over? I'm not talking about recovering. I wanna know what I should do to the parts/oilspills/draining things like that

If you turn it over on dry land, just turn it over and ride, you don't have much choice. I would just head back to camp easy and then check everything out. If it were to start making "expensive" noises, I'd look for a tow.
If you sink it, clear out the fuel tank and flush it, clear out the air filter and clean it, drain the carb, pull the plug and kick it a few times to get water out, clean electrical connections, that kind of stuff.

Flip it upside down when you kick it over (many times) to make sure you get all of the water out of the crankcase, my buddies bottom end seized up after a swim and having some water left in there was most likely the culprit.. although he rode pretty hard as soon as he got it fired back up. I'm sure it wouldn't have hurt to take it easy for a while until the moisture makes it way out.

My gearbox oil also turns grey after a dip, so somehow water gets in there too, but thats the kind of thing that can wait till you get back to camp. on shore just getting the water out of the motor, draining the carb and airbox and drying out the air filter as much as possible is all I do, I guess I've gotten lucky with the electrics.

I find keeping a K&N filter very oily when crossing creeks works miracles in keeping water out of the engine, even with half of your airbox full, no kidding.

you might want to watch keeping a filter too oily. I had a friend who did that and the oil got in his carb and clogged it up until it barely ran. He had to have the entire carb cleaned.
