Default 400ex Exhaust Issue

I purchased a used FMF slip-on exhaust and it fits...well, almost. The part where it actually slips on is a little to big. Like a 1/16th of an inch. I cranked down on the tighter, but it still leaked air. Is there an adapter that anyone knows of? or any trick that can tighten that sucker up?

thanks,

Ooo. Man that stinks. Exhaust leaks are not good. It may be designed to go onto a fmf header.

I had put a slip on pipe on one of my quads and just didn't like the clamp idea to begin with. Took it to a small muffler shop and they charged me ten bucks to weld it. If you're not going to take the pipe off at a later time, I'd check around and see what kind of prices they give you.

I did take the exhaust mounted on the quad to the shop, but had removed the plastics. That way I was sure the pipe was in the right position when they did weld it, and they didn't melt anything in the process.

If the pipe is in a spot they may not be able to get at it, put some alignment marks on the pipe when (if) you take it to them. And be sure to clean the pipe up beforehand too. The less work they have to do, the less they'll want to charge.

I'm sure the guy that did mine put that 10 dollar bill in his pocket for the 5 minutes of work he did.

Here's what you do. Get a empty mountain dew can and cut the ends out and a slit down the side. Slip it over the leaky spot and clamp both ends. Bam!

It's allowed, there's no duct tape involved!

Has my dad been on here?

Way back in the early 70's he bought a small 4 cyl import car. Total pita to get parts for, and the muffler gets a hole in it. Looks at it, drinks a beer, does the same thing. Of course, the cans were actually made of tin and lasted longer back then. Think he wound up doing that about 3 more times before he finally sold the car.

Ha Ha, yeah I said it jokingly but, it was a common fix back when, as you said, we had tin cans. I've seen more than one old motorcycle with a can clamped around it.

Caulk it. That'll seal it right up tight. But when you start it, turn it off after 5 seconds or the caulk will melt. Hey, you asked what will seal it, I didn't know you want to actually ride it.
