1998 450ES digital display problems
#1
I have a 1998 Honda 450ES. It has a digital display for the odometer, clock,
hourmeter etc. When you first turn the ignition on it displays all 8's, as
it is supposed to. After a few seconds it switches over to numbers. So far
so good, but........ the leading characters on the odometer remain as 8's,
though I know the mileage is not that high( I know there are less than 2000
miles on it). Also, the hourmeter reads all 9's and doesn't change. The
clock function seems to work fine and the odometer/tripmeter keeps advancing but just has the 8's in front of the actual mileage.. Any guesses as to the problem?????? Loose
connection? Where? What else?
Talked to the local dealers, but they seem to want to replace the whole unit,
or don't know (or won't tell me) whats wrong.

The entire unit will need to be replace. A friend of mine had a burnt out neutral light and the entire pod was replaced under warranty. The dealer didn't even program the unit to the actual mileage. It was sitting on all zeros after it was replaced.
