Default New here looking for advise on purchasing a 400ex

New here but going ****morrow 2 check out a 2003 400ex wanted some advise on what **** look for on these machines ive never owned one or a bike or atv for that matter just rode a buddies and like it. The seller says it needs new rear breaks and the front need 2 be bled. How can i tell if the fronts are any good with out bleeding them? Its a good price for the bike but I want 2 make sure im not opening a can of worms after i get it. Any advise at all will be greatly appreciated.

It will be hard **** tell if the brakes just need bleeding. It really is pretty easy **** do though, with 2 people it takes less than 10 minutes. Maybe ask the seller **** do it or help him? As for the rest of the quad, you need **** inspect all the bearing/pivot locations for excess play. The rear axle is a big one, with the rear tires off the ground there should be no free play other than rotational movement. Also need **** take a close look at the a arms and the swingarm bearings. The air filter should be clean and freshly oiled. If the chain is kinked or the sprocket teeth look like ocean waves instead of being symmetrical they will need replacement. The mo****r should rev smoothly and not have any excess noises or smoking. Finally take a good look at the underside of the frame. If there are any major dents and/or rust that may need **** be addressed.

Pretty much the main deal breaker for me is a dirty machine. It doesn't need **** be spotless, but I question the maintenance program of anyone trying **** sell a dirty quad. Most everything can be fixed fairly easily with a service manual and a little mechanical know how on these.
