400EX no reverse... WHO CARES!!!!

A 2wd (any kind) will not ever get the traction of a 4x4 (any kind). If a quad with no reverse came riding with us he would be one heck of a workout for the poor guy."A sport quad can go through the mud better than a 4wd because it heavier"LOL ,like a 300lb quad can float over mud? A 250 4x4 with bald tires will go more places than any 2wd sport on utility quad, that is just the law of physics.

Barry,
Thanks for the reply. I see now the distinction between High Performance and Sport. (yeah, the answer was right in front of me hehe). I also realize how silly and contradictory it may sound to all of you to say I want a Sport (not hi-per) quad with 4x4 n reverse. I have had quite a few drunken conversations w/ my friends where I blear out how happy I would be if my Scram weighed at least 100lbs. less, had a better steering stem etc. I believe that would make my Scram a Sport Quad that nobody could deny, but there is no way I am going to spend the $ to do it myself. Don't get me wrong, I love my Scram and it is fantastic 90% of the time. I just want the other 10%! LOL
I do admit to liking comfort so I definitely need 1 bike optimized for that. Roosting, sliding, jumping and ripping down the trail is DEFINITELY appealing too. Hmmm....perhaps the wife will sign off on a new "old" bike for me. I always see lots of 250R and LT250s for sale. Not too many Tecates though. I know the CR500 would be cheaper.....oh decisions decisions. But hey, at least they will be educated decisions from here on in. hehehehehe...

MrMan,
I thought your posts were both excellently written and respectful of others' opinions which is pretty rare on this forum. They were also friggin' hilarious - you should write a humor column or something! I wish more people around here could argue their points as well as you.
Personally, I think Honda omitted reverse just for the simple fact that most if not all of the EX tranny was scavenged from the XR400. It would be easy to change the size of the gears to attain different ratios but it would be altogether harder for Honda to shoe-horn in another gear (reverse) to an existing design. I don't KNOW this or anything I just sort of assumed it.
Also, I don't think you want a CR500. I have owned several open class 2 strokes and I will never own another. They are great for blasting across a beanfield but that is about it in my opinion. My 250 dirtbike is plenty fast for this old man and on an MX track (yes - I ACTUALLY race it) I can smoke an equal rider on a 500. Just my $.02 - keep up the great posts.

Thanks for the compliment and rest assured I really don't deserve it. hehe I have a feeling the 500 is going to be too much bike for me. I have ridden it a few times on the creek and can't seem to work up enough courage (or room) to get it out of 3rd gear. Perhaps a used 250 will do.

Well see the 400ex is a race bike. It was never made to be driving through the woods running over trees. If you are abusing your quad by running over trees big enough to pick it up then i dont think you should even have and atv. MORON

Damn, i didn't want to get into this but ahhh what the heck! LOL
Here's how i see it. Nobody really "NEEDS" reverse but many if not most people would take reverse if it was available.
Personally i didn't get a 400ex because i wanted reverse. I like being able to just throw it into reverse and go. Sure i've had times when reverse wasn't even enough...like when i get stuck in deep snow.
The way i see it is that if a dealership had both a 400ex with reverse and one without reverse for the same price most people would take the reverse 400 except for the few who are turning their quad into an all out racer.
Anyone who disagrees must be nuts...LOL
No offense.

Yeah, who needs reverse! For that matter,do we really need padding on the seat? Why the rubber hand grips? A real man could just hang on to the metal handlebar. Now that I come to think of it I dont really NEED air conditioning on my car or power windows. Dishwasher...sheesh..not me, I'm a real man. I wash my clothes in the river too,you people with washing machines are LAZY!! Shoot, do I really need this nice house when I could just live in a cave? BWAA HA HA!!

Wow, interesting thread... Couple of things I would like to point out though. First on the list, Pigs DO naturally like mud! They have no sweat glands and there skin has no pores like humans do. Therefore pigs wallow in mud and or water to cool themselves down. As for your statement as pigs being some of the cleanest animals.. What are you refering to? Pigs are notorious for being a good garbage disposal, as they will eat just about anything, Scavenger type animals have some of the cleanest meat available. Anyways, Back to ATV's, By the definitions that I have read and viewed in various places, The banshee is the only true RACE quad, Where the Raptor, Ds-650, 400ex, ect, are all SPORT quads. As for a sport ATV, What about the wolverine? Is it not a sport 4x4 quad? Oh, BTW. Some snomobiles do come equipped with reverse.
