My friend had a big bore kit on it and after awhile it just didnt run the same. All I know about it was from him. I don't know if he beat on it or whatever but thats just what I know.

i know exactly how you feel about wanting more power from you 400. i just barley traded my 05 EX for an 05 450R. i tried out the 06 and newer, but they seemed almost unrideable for where i ride. the 04-05's suit my riding area, and style very well. I do miss my EX (first thing i ever bought new), but the trade was well worth it. if a 426 is something you are interested in doing, i have a brand new 426 piston sitting on a shelf still in the box that i was going to put in 2 years ago, but never got around to doing so. i do not have the gasket kit for the top end. also have a Rev box if you are interested. waht year is your 400. a 426 will help out your ex. but i have found that the one thing i dont like about hondas, is that they get too much traction, and never really slide around. also you have to keep in mind that the 426 is the last bore size you can do to your stock cylinder, after that you have to replace the cylinder sleeve. i have heard of some 416 ex's giving R's some trouble. but definately let me know if you are interested in that piston, i will give you a deal.

a 416 kit helped on mine a lot but for overall torque the 440 sleeve kit with stage 2 hot cams and a little port polishing really does the trick... For timber riding it was like riding a tractor... low end torque but a little slower revving...lug it in 2nd or 3rd the power was there instantly when you hit the throttle...
