Default Rancher ES Problems

I have a Rancher ES, year model can't remember but it's the first year of the new bodystyle. My problem is the shifter will normally shift thru 5th gear but will not downshift sometimes. I have to turn the key off and I assume reset the computer then downshift to neautral. Doesn't happen all of the time.

I have replaced the reverse sensor due to it not shifting into reverse. (problem solved)

I have been told there are multiple sensors, so where do I start and how can I tell if the sensor is bad.

Oh yeah, when it will not downshift the screen flashes a line -- like this.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I only know what I have read on this forum. Replace the angle sensor.

After I posted I read on page 11 I think about a guy with a similar problem. When you posted I was on Bike Bandit trying to locate the part. Do you have any idea of where it's located and how you know if the sensor is bad?

I know it's in the front right bottom of a Recon. Not sure about the Rancher. Go up to the search tab and search for angle sensor. There's about 30 threads about it.

Go thru all ele. connection and check for water, apply silicon grease to all ele. connections. This takes care of most shifting problems.

Look through the Search option on this site and add author "HondaMechanic" he explaines all the ES problems well with the help of Pics.
