It can be really easy to miss one of the passages, in the throat for example, when you are blasting everything out. The float level being off could also cause it to run poorly at high throttle.

A vacuum leak still also sounds like a possibility.

Question

Still no luck!!!! I changed the plug again, and removed the carb to see if the jets might be plugged again. Re-installed the carb.......same thing. The float is not adjustable on this carb, and I don't believe it's sinking. I did notice that the primer isn't working. I removed it, and the small washer at the end of the diaphram is broken. When I try to pump the primer, the boot on the outside of the carb fills with fuel, and leaks out. Could this be the problem? It does'nt seem to be that bad, but like I said earlier, I don't know alot about these carbs.

When that diaphragm goes bad, it can overflow the float bowl. It needs to be replaced anyway, so may as well try it.

FINALLY !!!!!! I finally got the thing fixed last night!! I believe it was a combination of everything, but just a word of advice......most of you all probably already know this, but for those that don't....... The airbox, and the lid, must be on those things in order for them run right!!! I was trying to test run it all that time without it, and knew it would make some difference, but didn't realize it would make that much!!! I should be good to go now, I hope to get it all put back together tonite........just in time for the first day of youth deer season !! My 12 year old is pumped and ready to go !!! Thanks !!!! to all of you for the help. Hopefully I can help someone else like you all have helped me. This is one terrific forum.

Yep, that lid can make a huge difference. It's because with the lid on, it is pulling air from a smaller source and therfore, the SPEED of the air is faster. It's getting sucked in at high speed instead of coming in from a large surface area and moving slow.

glad you got it running, a quick jab of the throttle causes lean conditions so even small restrictions in the intake make a huge difference, thats why when people put a oversized carb on a quad or bike its driveability at low rpm is terrable. My XR250r bike lacks a vaccume slide or acc pump and is almost 100% unrideable until fully warmed up.

It still feels a little sluggish at low rpm's I may have to adjust the air on it just a little. I had a guy tell me to run the jet all the way in, and then back it off 2-2 3/4 turns and it should be fine, so when I set it I set at 2 3/4 turns, may be a little too much. Other than that it seems to run just fine.
