2002 honda rubicon stalls
hi first time posting and need help.i have a honda rubicon 2002 500 and i love it. it starts good but at idel it either stalls after a min or you hear a poping sound from the carb. i ran the codes and it came back with code 4 and code 10. now when riding it does great up hills no problem.trails rides great shifts good.i have only had the rubicon for 2 weeks and put about 150 miles on it. it has 5000 miles and 945 hours. dosnt smoke no leaks so if this might be something simple i have open ears. really open to hear all suggestion thanks.

I didn't realize the 02 gave codes?
Anyway, I think I'd start with pulling the carb for full disassembly and cleaning. Be sure to blast out all the little passages including the idle circuit and all jets and openings inside the bore.
I'd also take a look at the spark plug, and if the valves haven't been adjusted on schedule, I'd for sure be doing that.
Also, welcome to the forum.

after reading other post. i figured take the carb apart and it was full of crap. i used 2 cans of carb clearns and 2 cans of seafome too most of the morning to clean it .i got it back on and with a few adjustments purs like a kitten now.but a new problem when i put it in gear it has a slight grind noise and when i cheacked the oil it was over full and i know when i changed it i had it right.drained 1 qt out of it. now i think it got gas in it .so im going to change it. what oil do yall use? i want to put 15 40 in it but not sure if thats ok reason is it has 5000 miles on it.

If it now grinds when shifting, I'd bet it is idling too fast.
These engines are dry sump, so to get an accurate oil level you have to let it idle with no throttle for about 4 minutes, and then let it sit for two.
Oil wise, 10W40 works well in most climates. It has a wet clutch so I'd run something API SG or higher that does not say energy conserving, and it should also be rated JASO MA. The MA rating is specific to motorcycles, indicating it will work with wet clutches.
Anyhow, glad you've got it running.
When you lay it up for a while, it is a good idea to shut off the fuel and run the carb dry, or drain it.

thanks for ur help. ive been read in the honda section most of the day since i cleaned the carb.i have since changed the oil and it was really thin.like gas got in it.it was only in for about 40 miles.i used 10 40 and the grind is gone.shifts great and is running really good. i did idle it down some.but what im wondering is i used regular moter oil.i change my oil quiet often like around evey 150 miles and filter every 300.will this oil hurt any thing till my next change the parts store was out of atv 10 40 because of a big ride this past weekend.thanks
