Default 450r air box lid

My 450r has a stock airbox lid and a k&n air filter and it bogs out bc of not enough air flow. I put 5 air vents in it and it still isn't getting enough air. I got 6 more vents should I put them in the lid to or does anyone have any other ideas? i thought about the k&n power lid but someone said that it still allows water into the box and i dont wont that. Could this solve my problem? By the way it has never been jetted. Thanks

If it's never been jetted, try going back to a stock lid. Sometimes it's the velocity of the air that matters, not the volume. And you'll get a ton more velocity with the lid back on and no holes in it because the air is restricted to a smaller intake hole. So, the air moves way faster. Just tape the holes shut and try it. It's worth a try and cheap to do. Made a huge difference on my 250X. When I bought it, the guy before me had a big hole cut in the top of the lid. I closed it up and that thing took off like a bandit.

Yeah, if it's stock with a k&n and it bogs I seriously doubt it's because of not enough air flow.

Well, if it's too lean it will have big power losses that could feel like a bog. Occasional back firing is a common symptom of being lean.

Most 450's run slightly on the lean side from the factory. I just don't see you running rich especially after you've increased air flow to a stock engine. Most all recommend a larger jet (more fuel) to compensate for the extra air your giving you quad with the K&N and holes.

sounds like high speed jet stopped up , clean the carb thoroughly and try the lid the factory way..... my 75 cents.
